overview
tapcircle keeps one living card on your phone and helps you catch, organise, and share the people you meet. this policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. tapcircle is operated by Strivebit Technologies Inc, 1059, Nemapatti, Saidpur, Bulandshahr, UP, 203411, India ("tapcircle", "we", or "us").
information you give us
- account information — your phone number, or if you sign in with google, the email address and identifier google gives us.
- your card — the details you put on your own card (name, email, phone, social handles, notes, photo).
- the people you catch — details read from cards or qr codes you scan, and any notes or circles you add.
- circles you join — when you join a circle someone else opened, we store a copy of the fields you chose to share with it. see circles other people can join below.
- support messages — anything you send us through the support form or by email.
permissions tapcircle may request
each permission is optional. you can grant or revoke any of them at any time in your device settings, and tapcircle will keep working without them.
camera
used to scan business cards and qr codes so you can catch someone. tapcircle does not record video or take photos without you actively scanning, and camera frames are processed on-device to read the card and are not stored as images.
contacts
used only if you choose to import your phone's address book into tapcircle. importing is optional. we do not continuously read your address book, and we do not upload it to build a social graph of people who haven't signed up.
photos
used in two places, both only when you ask for them: to save your card image to your photo library, and to pick a saved photo of a card or qr code to scan instead of using the camera. tapcircle does not read or index your photo library otherwise, and a photo you pick is processed on-device to read the card — the image itself is never uploaded.
tapcircle does not ask for location access and does not collect your location. "met at" on a contact is a note you type yourself, not a place we detect.
how we use information
- to run the core features — your card, circles, scanning, and pass-along shares.
- to sync your card and circles across your devices when you're signed in.
- to respond to support requests.
- to keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
we do not sell your data, and we do not use the people you catch to advertise to them.
sharing and pass-along
when you choose what a person sees, only those fields are shared with them. when you pass someone along, you send a timed share of a card; that share expires after the period you set. we do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing.
circles other people can join
some circles are open for other people to join — the kind someone opens at an event so everyone in the room can swap details at once. these work differently from your own private circles, so please read this section before you join one.
- you choose what you share, once. when you join, you pick which fields go in. we store a copy of just those fields — we call it a snapshot — and every other member of that circle can see it. a circle can hold up to 500 people, and you will not know most of them.
- the snapshot does not update. it is frozen at the moment you join. editing your card afterwards does not change what members of that circle already see, and there is no way to push an update to them.
- leaving does not take it back. if you leave a circle, members who are already in it keep the snapshot you shared. leaving stops you appearing as a current member and stops anything further being shared — it is not a withdrawal of what you already gave. the same is true if you delete your tapcircle account: your snapshot is unlinked from your account but stays with that circle. see data retention and account deletion.
- the owner can change. whoever opened the circle can hand it to another member, and if they delete their account it passes automatically to the longest-standing member. the person responsible for a circle you are in may not be the person who created it. if a circle has no other members left, it is deleted.
- removal and reports. a circle's owner can remove you, which does withdraw your snapshot from everyone, and can block you from rejoining. any member can report another member; a report tells the circle's owner who reported whom and why. reports go to the owner — another tapcircle user — not to us. if you need to report something to us, use the support form.
service providers
we use a small number of providers to run tapcircle. they process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
- supabase — authentication (phone and google sign-in).
- twilio — delivers the sms code when you sign in by phone.
- railway — hosts our servers and database.
- resend — delivers our email: support replies and acknowledgements, sign-up and account notices, and circle invites and notifications.
- sentry — crash and error reporting, so we can fix bugs.
data retention and account deletion
we keep your card, the people you caught, and your circles for as long as your account is open. you can delete individual contacts or circles at any time.
deleting your account
- in the app: tap your avatar in the top corner of the contacts screen → account → delete account. deletion is permanent and removes your card, the people you caught, your own circles, and your sign-in.
- by email: send a request to support@tapcircle.app from the email on your account. we will action it within 30 days and confirm when it's done.
after deletion, we remove your data from our active systems within 30 days, except where we are required to keep limited records for legal or security purposes.
two things do not go away when your account does. if you joined a circle other people can join, the snapshot you chose to share stays with that circle — it is unlinked from your account, but the fields you shared remain visible to that circle's members. and if you owned such a circle, it is handed to another member rather than deleted, so the people in it do not lose their record of the event. we do this because a circle is the only place those connections live for everyone else, and deleting your account would otherwise erase their copy as well as yours. if you want a snapshot removed from a circle you are in, ask the circle's owner to remove you, or contact us and we will help.
full step-by-step instructions live at www.tapcircle.app/delete-account.
security
every request to our database runs through a layer scoped to your account, so one user cannot read another's data. we encrypt data in transit and at rest. no method is fully secure, but we work to protect your information.
your choices
- grant or revoke camera, contacts, and photo permissions in your device settings.
- edit or delete any contact or circle at any time.
- choose what each person sees, and which fields you share when joining a circle.
- leave a circle at any time, subject to the limits described above.
- delete your account as described above.
children
tapcircle is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. if you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the account.
changes to this policy
if we change this policy, we will update it here and note the date. for significant changes we will notify you in the app or by email.
